Can someone help me, I have bought the rectangular air filter for my Griff, went to fit it and have stopped, has anyone done this...after I loosen the nut, the air filter cover becomes loose, but I cannot get the cover out to access the filter...do you have to loosen the radiator to raise it to get the cover out....I take it there is no easy way...?

Thanks SMcQ

it is a tight fit, from what I remember you might need to take the badge off as the bloody bolts foul the filter cover, then looking at it from the front, slide it to the left and rotate it to bring it out

Yes, I had the same problem, in the end I left the box in the nose and manipulated the filter up into place from undeneath the air intake. It was a bigger of a job and apparently some Griff's simply don't have enoiugh space to get the box out.

never thought about the badge bolts, however the box I think is still too big to come out, without the Radiator being moved...did think about trying to squeeze the filter in and out, but there is really limited access with the filter cover being there....

In truth, I have been there done it and I know having spoken to Tim Lamont and the guys at Racing Green that the Griff 500's all differ. Some the box comes out and others it just won't come past the top of the radiator, mine was one of those as is I suspect the OP's...

Ideally you should take the air box out to allow you to seal the panel filter to the box otherwwise you can get gaps where there will be no filtering of incoming air.

I have to loosen the rad to do this. There also 2 clamps and typically for TVR the box doesn't sit in the recess created for it either, but thatv all adds to the character rolleyes

Was that rant and swearing directed at me? confused No idea why, I was simply doing the same as you, trying to help the chap by letting him know that he may not be doing anything wrong, but may just have a car where air-box won't come out. frown

As for sealing to airbeox I used bathroom clear silicone as I had some in the garage. You won't need high temp resistance, just something that'll hold it onto the airbox.

My back is killing me this morning hehe

The box on mine is very very tight if i dont move the rad but just do able, has to be slid out & in at just the correct angle.

No way would the box go in with the filter attached, so i place the filter in the recess in the nose with double sided foam on top & carefully line the box up to match this when clamping it down smile
