Hi Guys,

Finally replaced my speedo transducer last weekend (What a killer job even with a ramp!!) but my speedometer is now working so good result. So this year after a New Clutch, New Brake Servo and Master Cylinder, New Ignition Module and Coil, New Plugs and New Cap and Rotor Arm I was hoping that the car would be running well ready for The Growl.

Anyway took it out to juice up ready for Saturday and found it is running really lumpy, almost misfiring at low revs of up to 2k. It's always been pretty rough until I open it up but today I had to sit through quite a bit of traffic and to be honest it was real hard work.

Any suggestions of anything I can check/give a bit of love to which might help it run a little better. I have recently cleaned the Stepper Motor and the new plugs did get a couple of soakings prior to diagnosing the Ignition Module Coil Fault.

Any help much appreciated.

Air leak? Maybe check hose to back of fuel reg, and one between stepper housing and just upstream of the throttle for splits

Good suggetion from Pupp.

I'd add . . .

Stepper motor
All vacuum hoses including the servo one (they sometimes split inside the bulkhead)
Coil for leaks
Ign amplifier module (not sure how you may do this and the symptoms aren't in line) - in fact ignore me there !
Had any dodgy fuel lately ?
The bits you've replaced, are you totally happy with them. Was it a proper Lucas rotor arm and decent dizzy cap as we've seen that causing these issues loads of times, change the rotor arm and issues solved. I have a spare Lucas one if you want to try at the Growl, althougha little late. . .

Hi Johno,

1) Stepper Motor looks fine
2) I have just replaced the servo hose and actually replaced the fuel hoses last year (both split). I'll check the others
3) Tend to fill with Tesco 99 Ron, no change there so should be OK
4) It wasn't actually a genuine Lucas Arm and Cap. It seems so expensive to get the genuine parts at the time. The parts look so simple I guess I thought how could one differ from another. I'm starting to reconsider now!!!! Might be handy to try a genuine one, my old one which was Lucas the rivet had come loose on the Rotor Arm. Cheers.

Good luck getting the problem sorted.
One of my exhaust manifold gaskets gave up last night, fingers crossed I can get it sorted by weekend.

We spent ages trying to solve running issues with a Chimaera at Le Mans last year and ended up diagosing wrongly connected leads, once sorted it still didn't run right.

We had to leave it to get drunk and after we left the owner decided to lift off the dizzy cap (you know what it's like, you don't always go for the straight forward stuff after you get chatting) similar issues to your own and the rotor he changed for the Lucas one we left there with him sorted his issues straight away.

BB had similar issue to you, car ran great above 2k as i remember but crud idle. Lifted dizzy cap and rotor fell into 2 pieces in front of him.

Not saying it will be, all disclaimers apply, but it'd be my key suspect. It really is worth getting orginal Lucas ones as the patent parts are not as good in this instance. Many patents parts are fine, but this is one that appears on here regularly.

Agree on the Lucas rotor arm. Our 500 was running really lumpy with a non genuine embossed rotor arm. Appreciate they are £20ish each which is steep but if it makes the car run smooth its a cheap price to pay.
