Griff 500 fans not working intermittently
Discussion
Had a couple of recent instances where the car has started to overheat. I have always let the car cool, then short out the fan and all has been ok.
Later reconnected to Otter switch and next time out fans worked as expected.
Changed Otter switch last week.
Had another instance this morning but was in the middle of windsor high street so shorted the fans straight away... but the fans did not kick in.
The fuse is ok. when shorting out the fan, do you by pass the relay. This is a pain because it is all working as normal again now.

If you just put a link wire across the otter switch pins, then you are still using the relay.
I would recommend fitting an override switch (plenty on info on here how to do it) though this also uses the relay, so if they are not switching correctly you’ll need to first establish if it’s the relay or the otter switch that’s temperamental.
You may of course have two relays and its unlikely they would both fail at the same time.
Cheers,
Simon.

Hi redcarman,
best solution to keep the car cool is david beers two-stage-fan-cooling kit.
not an advertise by mine for him, but the very most intelligent way to keep the griff as long cool as possible.
since i have it, my water temperature never raises above 90 degrees celsius. not even in a heavy traffic jam.
before that the water-temp raised up to the red area and even into it. Mine is a 430 built 1993 - so therefore very imperfect.
even if your 500 has 2 fans, they are not perfect if originally by tvr. The best cooling effect fans can achieve is imho to suck cool air through the radiator. The original fans can´t do that efficiently since they are not covered on their inner side (meaning the engines-bay side). So their soaking-effect is pretty uneffective and a relevant cooling effect is noticeable when driving little bit faster for some kilometers of free road.
Kind regards
LL
