Hi Folks,

long ago that i drove my Griff. But now he´s on the road again :-)))

Today we made the first 60 kilometers (24 degrees celsius outside) pretty cool. Driving on the motorway without any stops.

But later - after perhaps 20 km of stop, push down, stop and some lame city-driving in between, the car heated up to its - let´s say - normal temperature. Ok, i accept that a glasfibre body is not realy able to lead the engines heat into the sorrounding air like a metal body. But my feet went pretty hot (have Levens Stainless Steel Pedals) and noticed that:

The Drivers footwell gets pretty warm. The Pedals do also, or are they perhaps even the reason for my Problem ?
And there is definitely no leakage from the engine compartement to the drivers footwell.

When we repaired my Car these Weeks i noticed that there is Kind of an "Air-Pump" or Ventilator under the Drivers-Side Front Lamp Cover (not meaning the lens cover itself but that room underneath the inner lens cover). Hope you understand what i mean ;-). By the way: mine is an LHD.

This Ventilator does not seem to work in my car.

But what does it in fact ?
Is it electrically driven ?
Is it the only Ventilator giving fresh air into the Cabin ?
And where to Hell does it get its own Air from ? (Didn´t see any Air-Inlet for the Vent)

Allthough my Girlfriend is very pleased with the warm Griff - she has cold feet even at 30 degs cels. - i´d like to improve or better to "correct" the original griffs technique before i start to engineer an air conditioning system for my 430. And even that would certainly not really work without serious knowledge about the griffs air-inlet-system.

Read "the Bible" from right to left and left to right, upside down and in any other direction. But found nothing that even comes nearby my problem.

Any Help is more than appreciated.

With my best Regards.

LL

P.S: There will never ever be a car like the Griffith :-)))

I've had some clutch issues recently, which saw me leaving the master cylinder access panel off for a week or three.

I didn't attribute it to the access panel at the time, but the heat in the drivers foot well increased to an intolerable level. Putting the panel back in place saw temperature's return to normal.

Hi Rocket Pepper,

many thanks for your Reply.

my Master Clutch Access Panel is off now for more than 2 years ;-(
Never imagined that this could be the Reason. But sounds as simple as logical.
Will check that these days and will keep you informed.

But still, any more ideas in case of "more fresh air" during summer ?

Again, many thanks.

LL

Oh trust me, that's the major source of your problem. All else is tolerable when you put the panel back on.

Yes it most certainly is your problem. I left mine off last year and damn nearly cooked.

There are pictures of the heater motor on thegriffithpages
I've got a couple too so if you need any let me know.
If its not working, the chances are its the terminal connection for the motor itself. The wires from the motor are only about 6 inches long so there is a connector which sometimes sits on the floor of the headlight pod cavity and consequently gets drowned regularly - especially in this country frown - mine was very corroded and I was surprised it was still working.

Don't put too much hope into this giving you some cool or hot air though. Even when its fixed its still rubbish, unless you go to the trouble of modifying it.

We used to suffer from melting feet in our Griff, when we had the manifolds off last we replaced the heat shielding either side of the engine bay as it was burnt and virtually missing, this cured the problem instantly even in south of france in middle of summer, only down side is on a cool winter Sunday morning with the roof down you now get cold and need a coat on. We now do this on customers cars when the manifolds come off and every one has noticed the difference.

Thanks again Rocket Pepper,
hi Barreti & TVRFix,

@ Barreti: Am not realy in the Need of a "heater" motor. But if that part is the one i tried to explain with my poor english, please be so kind to send me your pics: groundtorpedo@mail.com

Thanks a lot in advance. Since i don´t need more heat but more cooling, is there any way to improve that ? You said: "Even when its fixed its still rubbish, unless you go to the trouble of modifying it."

Did you modify yours ? If yes: how ?

@ TVRFix: Do you mean the heat-shield on the manifolds (as much as i know mine have a ceramic coating) or those made from some kind of aluminium Material and fixed to the cars body (on both sides of the engine). Still have both of them and they look like they are still in pretty good condition.

Sorry that i perhaps never will be a customer of yours. The way from Germany to you is perhaps a bit to far :-(
Would you therefore mind to give me an explanation what and how you exactly replaced/modified ?

Many Thanks in Advance and my best Regards

LL

Hi TVR fix, would you mind if I enquired as to where you got the engine bay heat shielding from, as mine is pretty tatty and as the engine is out at the moment it would be an ideal time to replace it?
