I've found that the exhaust pipe on my Griff 500 is about to part company with the flexi coupling. Rather than just get it welded up I would rather replace the flexi coupling. Can anyone suggest where I might buy one?

Thanks, Andrew.

Hump back bridge before the pipes part at the rear bit?

Thanks V8Animal, but no, I'm not talking about the mountings, the flexi coupling I'm referring to forms part of the pipe between the silencer box and the connection to the catalyst/'Y' piece.

Thanks for the tip Nick, that flexi pipe looks like it should do the job, providing the external diameter is not too great. Apparently the seller is away until 25th August which is a shame.

Good to hear that your car is now wearing the plate with pride!

I think you'll find that is 10mm to small i/d & the o/d to large to fit between the chassis rail & bellhousing...

I got a piece of normal flexi from Hayward & Scott Basildon but any specialist exhaust company should be able to supply similar..

Thanks for the advice re the diameter. Thankfully my panic is over, having had a closer look at the pipe, i.e. I dragged it out from under the car, I can see that the movement I saw is just the flexible coupling moving freely, I had incorrectly expected it to require some degree of force to move it.

As a matter of interest though, I found out that Racing Green list just such a coupling... http://www.thetvrshop.com/ProductsDetail.asp?PartN...

Precats didn't have it. Maybe some early 500s went with out?

I was told once by a reputable Indi that it’s not really needed and appeared on the later 500’s (T5 box’s I think) and that if it starts giving trouble and requires welding it can be replaced with a normal bit of tube.

Mine has solid tube (was Moosehunter's originally) and my original that was swapped with Moose's also had a solid section welded in so it must be a fairly common fix.

Thanks Simon and Sean. I'm putting the pipe back as it is, but if it gives trouble in the future I'll consider replacing with solid tube.
