I'm beginning to suspect I got a dodgy clutch when I changed it during my rebuild. (Either it was not correctly rated for the car or it was in some way faulty. I'll know more when I extract it tomorrow evening)

All was fine before I got the car to the current state of tune, and before I started doing autotests and stuff... smile The car is producing decent enough power figures - well over 300 of both power and torque: Last decent power run made 315bhp and 350 ftlbs, with a slight misfire and collapsing intake hoses. At the growl, it made 330 ftlbs @ 2400, then the clutch completely died - the expectation is that it would have made quite a bit more than last time's 350 ftlbs. It's driven with spirit on the road (but not generally that many miles, and not usually in heavy traffic) and much more agressively off the road.

So does anyone have a clue as to whether a standard clutch will take this sort of abuse long term, or do I just accept the inevitability of ending up with a twin plate metalic thing and a large bill?

I just had a new clutch supplied and fitted by V8 Developments. My engine was out and I was advised that it was half worn, plus the standard clutch is near the limit with the power of a standard 500. It wouldn't last laong with the new engine.

They supply a single plate, but double spring unit that was especially developed for them. It's rated 500ft/lb and if anything I would say it's slightly lighter than the original.

Interesting.... how much? and does it need any associated mods? Such as drilling of flywheel or different release bearing?

Just bought one. It's good for 400 ftlbs (not 500), but according to Rob will take more assuming it's not being tracked and launched all the time... They have used it to good effect on some of their 5.4 engines.

No associated mods are needed.

Cost is comparable to a standard clutch, so pretty good value.
