I was afraid you might say thatheheSo it's straight from the ignition switch then.I must admit,i had always thought they'd used a relay but still the wiring wasn't adequate. Cheers David

I know the cars do vary...but! rolleyes

Due to unreliable hot-starting, particularly after a fuel stop, I had my starter motor relay and starter motor solenoid replaced last week at SCOLE Engineering. I think from memory the new relay was 70A.

Hope this is helpful?

Had same problem on my Griff500 a couple of years ago. Removed starter, stripped pre-engagement solenoid and lapped a thou off the coil and armature. Starter replaced with a heat reflective blanket. Net result has been NO problems. I reckon the clearance between the armature and coil of the solenoid is a bit tight and, as the starter heats up, it causes the solenoid to bind up.
Something to try.....

Just to add...the heat-soak into engine conponents adjacent to the exhaust manifolds and cats is incredible, I generally lift the bonnet when I stop, just to allow some of the heat out...may extend the life of the starter motor too? scratchchin
