I've got the Griff booked in for it's first rolling road session tomorrow morning and was wondering what range I should be expecting the bhp to be in for a standard 500HC engine. I've read previously the figures stated by the factory (340 bhp) is exaggerated but couldn't find the threads on Search. 260 to 280bhp at flywheel seems to ring some bells?

Any help appreciated.

best 2 Totally standard ones at the Griffith Growl

276.8 and 276.9 at the fly

98S reg and 99T reg, both more than supposedly (tvr factory ) earlier ones.

As a comparison (ie how fair the road was)

A ls2 engined griff was bang on the manufacturers figures on the same day

That's spot on - many thanks. Fingers crossed mine's north of 250 then.

Cheers.

Because he's one of the turbo jap generation .. they have to get used to cars going pop in that arena and foolishly think every car must behave the same way .. the baseball cap must block out the common sense they were born with or something ..

. .. . Eerrrr
Lots of noise

Lots of exhaust gas

A fuel bill

Some sharp plumber style intakes of breath

A mug of tea if ya lucky

To go home wondering whether your engine is quite the same as it was that morning

A headache

hehe

No loud bangs/clouds of smoke. Some very consistent runs with best being 259 bhp @ 4,950 rpm (at flywheel) and 300 lbft @ 4k rpm. Looking at Griff Growl results this looks reasonable for a standard car ('96 with over 90k miles). Garage suggested fitting a boost valve to allow more control over petrol mix (as running a bit lean at low revs) and getting injectors cleaned.

Just came away feeling slightly cheated by manufacturer's claimed figures (80 bhp more is ridiculous) and not helped by guy with a standard Skoda Octavia RS before me chucking out 280 bhp/300+ lbft following new exhaust/superchips re-map!!!

I know which car I'd have though. But that is the problem with these new turbo'd cars. The route to big power is an easy one and when up against one it can be quite startling. I had a chap in an M3 wave at me as he accelerated away from my 535d BM. I waved at him back as I went past him. Childish I know, but M3 drivers need putting in their place.
