What powers the coil and from where...is there a fuse?
Discussion
If the starter turns and the fuel pump primes then the immobiliser is at least partly working as these are both also controlled by the immobilser. It could still be faulty but you'll need an expert on the immobiliser to check it.
The coil is powered conventially (i.e. distributor and points), there is an ignition amlifier that is a fairly common failure item.
I presume you've checked that there are no loose connectors then I would check the distributor, has the rotor arm failed? all the HT leads firmly connected?
Do you have the Bible there is a section on ignition fault diagnosis.
