I think my manifold gasket has gone ....horrible sound and a load of smoke (exhaust??) from the rear of the drivers side manifold area...hense my conclusion smile Clever aren't I hehe

So which gasket is the best .... I think I've seen some with metallic facing or should I stick with simple asbestos type stuff replacements

I use the metallic type composite ones bought from ebay pretty cheaply. They are fine so far and have survived hill climbs and high speed (140 plus - legally).

There are various other companies that sell metal composite gaskets, but the embossed metal composite gaskets that Clever Trevor do are the best I've found.

You don't mean that, do you wink

I favour having no gaskets at all, and just use hi-temp silicone stuff. But this is only sensible if you don't have cats.

Can recommend the pictured bolts..took my manifolds off yesterday and bolts came off easily.. chiefly because I used a dab of nickel grease on the thread last time I did them up.

Add some grease to the list ..

Still missing from the picture is the tripple jointed wrist.

In the Haines Range Rover manual it says they are fitted without gaskets but I can only assume that the manifold surface is a little better finished.
