Cam Grind question
Discussion
I am considering a cam change on my Megasqurted (fuel and spark)96 Serp Griff 500. I have decided that the H404 would affect the idle too much and had my mind made on the V8D Stealth cam.
However living sooo far away from the UK, I can source locally as cam with the following specs.. and would like to know if it is suitable/recommended for the TVR?
Any thoughts on which would be the better.. and why?
"I would recomend our 217 grind: it has .450" lift on the inlet & .474" on the exhaust: it has 280 duration on inlet & 289 on exhaust and the lobe spread is 112"

Take a look at this cam table - to give you an idea.

As you can see - the H234 and M248/256 are the wild end of the range..
V8 developments cams will be very similar to these kind of specs.
It all really depends on what you want the car to drive like.
After all - the is no point putting in a wild cam and then finding that you have a lousy tickover, poor driveability ans the top end is actually the same because the injector flow rates are maxed out .. and oh - it might also need a re-map and fuel pressure change to actually take advantage of the cam change.

Hi Lindsay. I had similar dilemma last year on which cam. I used a Wade cam (specialist here in Melbourne. The details can be found in this entry (ref: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... My engine has been rebuilt, but the car is still on stands (I'm currently traveling overseas from May to Oct.) and so I cannot yet advise on the performance. Wades advised that they had had very good results from this cam and price is very reasonable. Suggest you take a look at their site:

My car is fitted with a modern mapped ECU and wasted spark coil packs, So similar to your Megasquirt.
Previously I had a cam developed from the H234 profile. The tickover wasn't good, but acceptable. Before the ECU was fitted, tickover was horrible.
The cam was replaced by an H404. With mapped ignition this ticks over nicely.
Therefore you can choose between the H404 and the Stealth, not on tickover, but on power delivery. The H404 gives you more top end; the Stealth will give you a wider torque spread.
