I understand 25 BV's were made by TVR. I thought it would be interesting to get anyone who owns a 4.3BV to post a reply on this page to see how many appear! If possible, could you also state if it came from the factory or was modified after the event.
It will also make a really useful link for the years to come for people to trace and track the cars and their history.

Hi Paul
My 4.3BV was first registered 2/09/1992 , i have a sales invoice from "The TVR Centre" dated 19/10/1992, it states that the price includes a big valve convertion, so i suspect that the work was carried out between these two dates ! It was sold to "Arther Andersen+Co" as a company car !
The car has also been serviced and sold through "Fenhurst" as a 4.3BV
The log book shows it to be a 4.3 but do's not state wether or not it is a "BV"
It has the 4.3BV plate on the engine but the engine No ends with a G.
I spoke to TVR power but because records where not alway keeped up to date back then they are unsure of convertion.
So what have i got ? a very nice car that sound just great , go's very well and like boz didn't pay a premium for.
PS :- I sometimes travel back from TVR meetings with "boz" down the M6 and the sound of a 4.3BV Griff overtaking is just awesome .

I contacted TVR power who did not have a record but who told me a V on the end of the engine number most likely meant it was a BV.
But surely BV essentially means cylinder head work? I guess a whole batch of engines (with a V on the end of the engine number) could be the 'factory' BV motors, but an aftermarket BV conversion could presumably be done to any old block?
Or does the BV upgrade involve some bottom end work as well?

Mine's a '92 - the Handbook and logbook state it's a 4.3 BV and I made contact with the first, original owner, so I am (fairly) confident it's a genuine factory example. But if TVR didn't keep proper records (surprise)how do you tell if a car is genuine?
Strip the engine is the only real way. The V is not that accurate either as it is not 100%. In the end it is a case of checking the provenance and making an assessment. Most of the BV cars that are around are after sales conversions.
Steve
If that's Steve Beresford's 4.5 BV in Sprint it is genuine. He wanted a 5.0 litre but the factory said that they would never build a 5.0... He brought it along to an unofficial back home meeting in about 1993. His engine is rated at 325 bhp by TVR and felt VERY fast. I would think that there are more like 50-100 4.3BVs out there, maybe 40 from the factory.
AFAIK the 4.3 BVs have a different head and cam but Steve's was a fully reworked engine; I think that his was the first of an initial batch of three - I don't know whether they went to the same trouble with the rest of them.

On one visit to the factory they were able to look up the notes from the test drive for my old S3c and tell me exactly what said about it (it was fine) ! Rich... p.s. I think I was chatting to Gaffer's dad at the time. R...

Hello.
I think there were 10 4.5BVs made and an 11th one for Gerry Marshall, which I have had for 9 years now. Used to be DTV 4.
Just had a rebuild last year and a few mods attached. Revs much higher with torque higher up and drives off the speedo.
Having it re-trimmed this summer when it is dug out of the garage.
Broke down for the first time ever last summer after the engine refit. Turned out that a cable down the back of the engine was trapped and shorting on the block and blowing the fuel pump fuse.
Keep going to buy a 996 turbo but can't part with the Griff and can't justify having both. May get it instead of the everyday 540 but am looking to change that for a newer M5.

I've got - well technically I've got it because I don't pick it up until Sunday - an original 4.3BV
Engine Number ends in 43V
Originally registered K67AGM on 25-11-92 to a guy in Caversham.
Last owner was Andrew Turner of West Sussex TVRCC who very kindly had a long chat with me about the car and told me he confirmed with the first owner that it was ordered from the factory as a BV.
