I've just bought a Griff with an Ally dash which I want to change back to the original wood veneer. It seems that the only way to do this is to send the original dash to be re-veneered....but I don't have the original dash.

Anybody got any ideas? Is there anybody that manufactures them from scratch? Does anybody want to swap a wood dash for an ally dash?

Hi daveb500,

The original veneer dash has a steel plate backing. Part of the reason they crack over time is that the wood veneer was bonded straight to the metal surface which of course can get pretty hot.

Can't see any reason why your current ally dash couldn't be cleaned to remove any lacquer and then used as the template ?

I rember a thread about this where someone had a CAD drawing of a dash which could be used to cut a new template.
I'll see if I can find it.

edited to add This thread here has some chat about a Pre Cat Griff template.

I have a CAD dwg of a precat dash, but I gave up in the end and bought a complete dash from TVR MADS - £180 I think.

I've just had a stock order off Fernhurst TVR and hope to have a batch of new Griffith 500 (alu surround dials) dash and heater panels ready for circa 13 October. They're made by the two firms TVR last used.

If the OP is still looking, I have a suitable piece of figured ash veneer bonded to a sheet of aluminium, and given quite a few coats of varnish + rubbing down. It's rectangular and large enough to make a dash panel.

I was going the replace the ally dash im my car with it, then changed my mind, so it's available subject to a fair offer. PM if interested.
