Can anyone tell me how the exhaust on a 500 should mount on the front of the engine block? I have the bracket on the exhaust but it is not connected to anything - I am getting a terrible resonance through the exhaust which I guess may be down to this (any other ideas?)

Should bolt to the side of the block. there should be a bracket on the top of the Ypiece section as near where it joins the straight pipe...this should have a hole in it that a bolt goes through..it should become clear where it goes if you have it...i see if i can dig up a piccie for you.

Yes, I have that bracket and can see the block holes but there is a 1 inch gap between them and I cannot see any way of closing it short of bending the bracket as there is obviously no tolerance due to the y pipe.

By the way BB, cheers fo the help that you gave my pal in Vienna (Anthony aka Kbear) with the troubles he was having with his Griffith. I can blame the purchase of my new Griff on him..........

Should be able to loosen the clamp and rotate it a bit. If it really won't meet I'd make up a spacer from a section of tube.

Is it an exhaust with the flexible section up front? I replaced my rigid type recently with a flexi-piped one and had difficulties in mating up that mounting. It did go in the end but needed some body English. The rigid one used to fall on.

Yes, mine has the flexible tubing. Managed to loosen the whole exhaust (front clamp and centre plate) and I was able, with a lot of effort, to rotate the front a small amount so that I now only have about 1/2 an inch gap. I can now get a bolt in there (once I eventually found an imperial one in my spares!!!) and I should be able to close it up, with maybe a washer spacer too. No wonder I was getting a resonance in the system! Thanks for the help.
