Outrigger debate
Discussion
Hi Guys just looking from over on the Chimera pages, I had same problem a few weeks ago, knackerd outrigger. Car was in garage (deepest Cornwall) and they would not attempt to repair car with body on,I even offerd to help them but they wanted to send it off to another garage to remove body, and fit new outrigger. As the age of the car did not warrant this I decided to do the work myself. I had seen many comments about doing this with body on or off. And quite a few heated debates.I did it with the body on by removing sections of the floor of the car and reinstalling these sections after the repair was carried out.It may sound harsh but it can be done quite easily and quickly. If you have sourced all the materials prior to carrying out the work one outrigger could be done in one day.(add extra time if you would want to powder coat new outrigger before re fitting)As you can see from pictures I did all the work on the car on axle stands (TVR standard tool kit) all welding carried out was with a MIG welder. When job was finished car/floor was stronger than when left factory and you could not see that any work had been carried out. Car flew through MOT on chassis few days later.I am not knocking anyone elses work or ideas on fixing this problem, just an example of how it can be done,at very little cost. If anyone have questions on tube material/ sizes/bolts/fixings/tips then just contact me be only to happy to help. Cheers Mateys C/P
I'd already read that with great interest CP. I reckon you did a fantastic job mate, and well done for posting up your work.
I think I'll be contacting you for the full set of pictures, and a chat about the technique with the springs.
Shame the thread went to pieces when you got talking about boats and fish though
