Chris,
I made and fitted carpets last year for my Griffith 500, Never again! what a pain. 27 separate pieces and most need binding. The company that supplied the carpet, felt, binding glue etc. was: Coverdale Carpets:
http://www.carcarpets.co.uk
I found them an excellent firm to deal with, goods sent by return.
After finishing I discovered that they also do carpet kits for TVR's but I understand some of the pieces require a small amount of cutting to fit.
I would certainly chose this route if recarpeting, as by the time I paid a local upholsterer to bind the pieces plus a few mistakes at cutting out, Doing everything myself probably worked out more expensive and a load more hassle.
Have a chat with them, I found them most helpful. One tip, If you buy their spray on glue that works very well dont bother with the solvent for removing overspray , I found it hopeless. White spirit was far more effective and even removed dried glue.
You will have to remove the hood, not a big job if the bolts are not seized and I also took the opportunity to replace seat belt bolts etc. with new. My original carpets were wool and stank to high heaven, I replaced with man made fibre, not as plush but a bit more practical in an open car. Let me know if need anything further.

Thanx Paul
When i 1st looked at the carpet i thought to myself ''oh boy'' how on earth do i get that to fit,i understand that it may need to be glued & bound at some stage..
Being an upholsterer i can see that i would have a toughtime getting the carpets to fit around the bends & curves, do the carpet-kits come moulded ? & does the carpet company have any kind of guides or manuals ? I have on loan a Steve Heath(2nd edition)book, but it seems a bit thin on details when it comes to the interiors.
Does anyone know how long it will take to do & what sort of price for the labour ?
P.S. the whole car is to be done(in stages) the dash, the seats, the trim, the hood & all the fiddely bits. I'd best have a look at the link you gave me Paul lol, im full of Q's at this stage.
Thanx again

I'm also looking to replace the carpets in my Griff. Have been in touch with several upholsterers/trimmers but most haven't inspired confidence and prices vary from £450 to almost £1K! A couple also said they'd done a TVR before, but never again. Does anyone have details of exactly what (and how!) has to be removed. Alternatively, any recommendations not too far from Wiltshire?
Hi again
Most car interiors would be done by an upholsterer/trimmer who specialize in that market, best look for a car/auto/bus trimmers on the net.
Im just your everyday upholsterer who trying to add another string to my bow.. I did work on a 1937 Bently for my former employers, which was a major challenge.. I only did the front & back seats,so carpets are a bit of a newthing.
I would say that 550 would be a fair price to supply the carpets, trims, sundries & labour.. i mean its not even a weeks work !! I hope not anyway lol.
Any kind of feedback on the re-upholstering/carpets/hoods of TVR's would be just dandy.
Thanx again

Fom memory You will have to remove the hood, seats, seatbelts, the central whale tail, disconnect the door pulls from the whale tail, remove heater panel etc. etc. If the whale tail remains in situ the job is a lot more difficult. In other words a real hassle, especially if any bolts are seized, luckily mine were OK. Also you need to be careful removing the old carpet as it tends to also remove the under felt/foam. The foam will most likely need replacing certainly around the rear parcel shelf, if the foam is not perfectly flat the carpet will look very lumpy. To answer Chris's query, all the carpet fitted OK with very little stretching needed around bends, probably because there are so many bits(27)no single piece had to stretch too far. Considering the amount of work involved I would have thought £1000 was not too bad if you deduct £250 for carpets and sundries that leaves £750 labour. I could easily see it taking 3 days i.e 24 hours. That equates to about £31/hour. If a TVR specialist offers to do it for much less I wonder what sort of job they would make? It took me a great deal longer than 3 days but then It was my first time and a few repeats had to be made for bum steers.Useful feedback, thanks. Been quoted between £300 and £400 today for a set of ready-made carpets with bindings. The fitters I've spoken to today say about a day to get the old carpet out and another day to fit the new ones. Does that sound about right? BTW, been looking at what needs to come out and the rear hood bolts look the worst - how do you get to the nuts from the boot of the side fixings or are they bonded into the fibreglass? Maybe my hands are just too big to reach.

From memory the back fixings were allen headed bolts and the side ones cross heads (or posidrive). The allen bolts 10mm I recall are a bit fiddly to undo but using some very small mole wrenches in the boot to hold the nuts it was made a lot easier. The side cross heads just screwed into the thick fibreglass.
Its worth renewing the Velcro on the body that secures the hood just behind the door, simply stick it with contact adhesive. You will also need some more Velcro for the carpet sections that fix to each B post (i.e. behind the door to the floor) to allow access for the door motors etc.
I would think a day to remove the carpet and a day to fit was quite reasonable it depends rather on how much work you intend doing beforehand to remove hood etc.

Tape an old sheet to the inside of the boot. That way when you drop the nuts (not if!
) you'll be able to retrieve them. You can blu-tac them onto a spanner when you put them back if you're really cunning... A second pair of hands for that particular part of the job makes it much easier
