Valves don't look much different... you only really see the difference when you inspect close up & stick calipers on them. The ports look much bigger and all the tracts are opened up which is visually quite apparent, but there seem to be quite a lot of non BV TVR heads that have had significant porting, yet retain the std valve sizes. These are all significantly different upon visual inspection to the basic LR heads (as used in some of the basic models apparently).
Your 430 will likely have well ported O'ringed heads, but with std 40/34 valves. However if you are lucky you might find the 43/38mm BVs in it. There are alternative aftermarket sizes inbetween, and I think JE even did some with slimmer stems.
There used to be a site bacomatic.org IIRC that had some decent pictures but it seems to have gone :-(

Thanks very much for your imformative replies, much appreciated.
My Griff is currently at dulford having a rebuild, and being lightly breathed on.Richard sent me some photos of the engine and heads and I was surprised at how close the valve seats were to the plugs, and each other, which made me wander if they were standard sized valves.Have tried to post photo but got a bit bogged down in photobucket!Suppose the answer is to ask!but such is the mystique of the big valve I probably don't want to know the answer

I'll raise you a set of wibblywobbly ones:

No way are you going to get to see inside my inlets though!, yours are just like Fordy compared to Pasco (Little & Large counts?)
I guess from Quinnys pics that you concentrate much more on velocity of flow at V8D Rob, whereas TVR just seem to go big? What size are those valves then Andy?

Aren't they the Real Steal ones, I thought the Wildcat ones had the valves shifted a bit?
That's a point. I bet the wildcats have chevy valve sizes given the chevy bores. I thought they could be wildcats because they have huge cores to let the sand out hence why I wondered if Ian's block had waterways in the deck? Unless the cores are also being used to house the pushrods. I haven't seen either head so am just guessing
The close valves could be a R/S merlin product.Edited by Boosted LS1 on Thursday 16th October 08:56

Get Richard to measure the valves - it's the only way you'll know for sure. The difference is visible in photos, most noticably in the reduced distance between the valves themselves. I've got before and after pictures - I'll try to dig them out.
