Consul lighting unit

I wonder if any one out there can help me. I have recently bought a 1992 4.0lt Griffith on which I'm trying to find where the fibre optic unit that lights up the heater & window controls comes from. The unit is housed under the centre consul it is in two lalves one of which is silvered woth the buld in it the other half is black plastic looking like a large circular electircal socket, with 14 connection points to plug the fibre optic leads into. TVR only use 5 of these connections, the unit has Lucas stamped into it and the following part No. 54366052 and a date stamp of 1492. I have been to the local Lucas dealer but this part number is not listed in any of there catalogues. They suggested that the number is the part number of the manufacturer that they make this unit for. Some one has said to me that they think it is a Vauxhall item. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the fibre optic unit in the S series was frrom a Granada, so as TVr were building S's and Griffiths in '92 you might try a friendly Ford dealer with the part number. Rich...

I thought it must have been a Ford part as it was a Consul unit. Sorry...I'll get me coat.

Steve Thanks for the information, I will try my local Range Rover specialist. The reason I need a new one is that the clear plastic lens inside the unit that focuses the light from the buld onto the ends of the fibreoptic cables has worked loose and melted where it's made contact with the lightbulb.

Any joy with replacing the fibre optic unit? My colour filter melted also, have made my own one but would like the proper bit if available. Cheers.

..on the same lines I noticed while rumaging around underneath the centre consul that one of the fibre-optic leads had snapped off from just behind the brass insert thats glued into place.I managed to reinstate it by carefully drilling out the remaining plastic fibre-optic inside the brass insert far enough so that the new end would slide far enough in to where it was originaly..seems to work ok now...

I know this is an old thread, but I've just come in from the garage having tried to get the centre consul out for the last hour - I can see that the handbrake needs slacking off, but can't see the adjusting point up in the transmission tunnel - if anyone has a clue how to do this I'd appreciate it

You need to remove the right hand rear wheel, then follow the handbrake cable up and over the diff. The adjuster is a pair of ridged adjusters which screw up and down along the cable. Should be just forward of the diff itself.
