Is this an easy & cheap job?

I'm wondering if I should do this while the hubs are off the car for the big brake conversion work... There's no play in them, but they are 100k+ miles old, so I doubt they'll last that much longer.

I have a week's "waiting time" while the diff build is finished, so using it productively would seem sensible.

The hardest part will be undoing the hub nut with the hubs off the car.

I just popped my uprights into my local "dirty" garage. They undid them, supplied and pressed new bearings in and torqued them up again for £40 cash per side. Not worth the aggro of trying to press them out yourself for that kind of money.

An Impact gun won't even touch the hub nut, trust me! Power bar job, and prob best on the car or held in a very large vice!

Neill Anderson would use an impact gun. I watched him do it on 2 of mine, no sweat, no danger, no time at all... In all things running gear related I personally would follow Neill's example, but each to his own wink

Don't get robbed for a new front wheel bearing - its a sierra wheel bearing - I've had a couple for a fiver each on ebay including the hub nut (these are LH/RH thread each side - Passenger side RH, Drivers LH, I've even seen bearing kits that come with both nuts).

(Very early sierras had RH thread both sides, maybe then they realised the drivers side nut undoing itself wasn't such a hot idea & changed it).

Here's my old thread for my V8S front wheel bearing change
