Had a bit of a scary journey home this evening.
got in the car and turned on the lights at which point the windscreen wipers started up all by themselves. They stopped wiping after a while and so I set off.
On the way home several times the wipers would start up and the offside main beam would go out, also the green indicator repeater between the sppedo and rev counter would light up.
Sometimes the headlight would flash off and on (the indicator light would mirror this) and then the wipers would go for 4 or 5 wipes then go off. Other times the headlamp would go out for longer and the indicator light would be on constantly and the wipers as well (like for or 5 minutes).
When I got home it seemed to be worse (i.e the offside headlamp was off more than on). Also the indicators (front and rear were on too).
I think there must be either a loose or bad earth connection, or possibly a dodgy connection or short behind the dash. Is there any known problem connectors behind the dash?
Anyone had anything similar? Is there a diagram somewhere showing where all the earth points are?
I'll have a bit of an investigation this weekend.

I have had this problem before.
It was a loose earth bolt that goes into the chasis frame under the LHS (facing the car) of the radiator. It's a bolt that secures the body to the frame that also bolts headlight/wiper earths to ground.
My thread had actually stripped..had to use permatex thread goo to remake the thread.. and at the same time took the opportunity to move the earth.
pic has the offending bolt removed

Thanks I was reading the bible last night and this is mentioned in there as typical of the problems I was seeing. I did have this earth out recently when I had to run a new earth wire for one of the radiator fans so suspect I didn't tighten it up fully and it has come loose. I'll have a good poke around tomorrow.
