Just don't mount it to one side and create a

the same as many misguided Metro/Corsa/Saxo owners try to do...
I agree. I was thinking of a central position.

I think even small but perfectly proportioned ones don't look as good as the originals - the only other option i would go for (if forced) is the stick on the nose cone jobbies - then at least it looks like it means business
Alternatively, get your cooling system sorted out. I have the Modwise 2-stage cooling kit on and now that the colder weather is here, am going to have to adjust it to get the engine running warmer - went all the way to the Griff Growl and back and didn't budge over 78 degrees!

I've got a small front plate and was pulled over by the cops the first day i put it on!. Was also maybe because the typeface was non standard too. Had to take it to an MOT station with proper plates on, so just stuck the old ones over the top and then took them off after the MOT bloke said they were OK.
After track days I usually "forget" to put the plate back on. On one occasion I broke it and just left the plate in the boot for 3 weeks, the only reason I got a new one was because the missus likes the number plate and kept pestering me to replace it, otherwise I would have left it like that.
I don't think that a front plate carries the same penalty as the rear, the police just ask you to sort it out.
Edited to add; Oh yea, a square one will look s**t.
