No worries, still not sure why you would want to drive at night and not see the instruments though! Still the best car you will ever own this side of stupid money.
In the days when parking at night necessitated parking lights - switching off the dash lights delayed the onset of a flat battery.Trev

If you're running across country in the dark the instruments can reflect pretty harshly in the windscreen so I guess that's probably the reason.
Like most owner I was curious about the point of this button when I first got mine. Have to say that on a couple of occasions that I did turn the dash lights off when I was on empty country roads the lack of instrument reflection definately improved your view of the road, kinda like watching a film in a dark cinema as opposed to watching a film at home when the sun is shining on the TV screen. On an empty country road in the middle of the night fine... but def not when around other vehicles or built up areas. Still I doubt the BIB would see it that way..

So there is a point to switching off the dash lights, but in reality on our busy roads it's probably not a good idea. So the dimmer function seems like a pretty good idea
