How is the black perspex heater/switch panel fixed in position, also how is the heater switch affixed to the panel itself.

Thanks

The swithces just pull out, but be carefull that the wires dont come off, unless you are confident on re-connecting them (same control as the windows).
Underneath the switches are some small self tapping screws with the head diameter ground down, these hold the panel in place.

Thanks Antony J

Presumably there is some fibreglass in place behind the origional panel for the self tappers to screw into? As mine has been altered there is just a big hole behind the switch panel so I will have to make something up.By the way do you know how the heater fan switch is held in place,I have sourced a new one and it has an illuminated fan symbol on a ring which clips onto the front of the switch. But on Pre-Cats I have seen this symbol/ring is not visible is it not used? If not what holds the switch in place?

There is fibreglass, behind the panel, with cutouts for the switches and fan knob.
Think the fan speed knob either lifts away with the panel OR the dial on it pulls off and the actual switch stays in place..

Thanks very much most helpful Antony, will now refix something in place. Two fixings in the heater switches and two fixings in the window switches. The black perspex panel had symbols fixed to the back of it and there seems to be remains of some led housings or some form of illumination in the fibre glass behind the panel but its too badly butchered to tell what it was,was it leds or fibre optics or something else?

There is some fibre optic leads that end in the fibre glass , and some white balls that sit over the end of them.
The Panel is just a piece of perspex with a black overlay, and symbols cut out of the overlay to allow the light to shine through.
Seem to remember that the fibre optic thingy is from a RR?

Sorry to be a pain, so is there a lamphousing some where with a fibre optic cable connection that feeds to the fibre optics in the rear of the heater panel. If you know where this is I can attempt to find it to reinstate it if I can.
Thanks

Yes you are looking for this

Its usually just under the main dash in the stereo area, with the fibre optic "leads" coming to the heater panel.
It just has a normal lamp in it.
