No problem
Whats up with it ? i had a mobile guy who does all the local car dealers come & fix one for me £60 iirc
Might be worth asking the trade round your way if they know of anyone..
ETA think he uprated the chargepack ? as well, not on the griff though..

IIRC there have been a few financially successful efforts achieved by plonking said unit on the counter of local autofactors and asking for a replacement
(might even have been joo - not sure?)
Exactly what I did - well sort of, it was an alternator specialist in Nottingham. Although the guy told me I could have an uprated version instead for a few extra £
(might even have been joo - not sure?)I thought it was surprisingly difficult to find an alternator specialist. Difficult for an office keyboard basher that is.

Thanks for the input guys. I did plonk said unit on the counter, but they were unable to match it. But I suspect I got a makee-learn as on return armed with Del's numbers, they got it in no time.
Fault with unit is a bummer. The worst sort - intermitant. Ignition lights sometimes come on and flicker with revs, and volts drop to 9v. And sometimes all is OK. I can't work out what makes the fault appear - revs, heat, time, potholes, or then diappear again. I have taken apart twice to find the low current cables (one each time) were almost broken (suspect the unit has been taken off at sometime in the past, and fallen forwards whilst wires were still connected). The first time I took the unit out to find one cable (rev counter?) hanging on by only ony thread of wire and confidently fixed that and re-assembled. The second time (yes I know I should have checked both wires first time round, but having found a fault, thought that was it - should know better, I know). Third time I am getting bored, but very good at getting a spanner on the back of the bottom retaining bolt. The local factor has been very helpful, and offered to let me swap the unit to see if that will cure. It has gone on a test bench, but behaved, except at very low revs.
Before someone asks, I have also stripped down the 100A fuse, and all is OK. Battery is new (and on a trickle when not in use). No other electrics seem to be misbehaving. (I can't believe just I wrote that!)

That was harder to source than I expected. Lucas part number is LRB00285. This is for the 100A Marelli unit fitted to (or at least mine) 98 500 Griff. The slot in the plastic shroud for the main cable needed to be shaved back a tad to make it wider.
Now, I wonder if that has fixed the problem? Thanks for the help guys,
roger
