Carpet colour refurb

Faded carpets?? All you need is Kiwi shoe cream (comes in a tube with sponge applicator). Iknow it sounds Mickey Mouse but it realy does work. My carpets where originally dark blue but faded to orange/yellow in most places including deep in the drivers footwell and looked like they had the mange . I have looked for a carpet refresh kit on the web but no joy and had all but decided on a re-carpet. Then I had the idea of the shoe cream Works a treat, easy to apply, can be cleaned off any leather that you may get it on, and dries off perfectly in no time. If you rub it very hard with your fingers the next day, you only get a tiny hint of colour on your finger tips so it wont rub off on clothes or in the general run of use. I did the whole car in a couple of hours this morning and looks like new. If you had the same problem as me I hope this helps, its got to be better than £350 - £500 for a retrim. Use tight fitting rubber gloves for dexterity and tight corner work and masking tape accurately applied. Clean off with white spirits / Alchohol BP

My carpets have faded too so I thought I'd check previous threads. I guess it's a common problem with dark blue.

Stupid question but was there any particular colour of blue shoe polish you used?

Nobbie, It's been some months since I did it so I can report some R&D results 1)drivers side door carpet has faded back just a little due to my right elbow rubbing it. 2)Also some blue did show on my right elbow if I was wearing white or a very light colours 3) areas of non-contact have stayed looking good (which is everywhere else except the drivers door carpet)4) I could only find navy blue shoe cream

PS I am due to have my carpets redone at AJ's Trimming (see add in back of sprint or threads here) and will let you know. He did my hood in 24 hours and it is exceptionally good work

Also try leather/suede colouring spray from Timpsons. Tested sucessfully on a white t-shirt with no colour-transfer once dry.

Thats the stuff I was lookng for befor giving up and using shoe creme. Nobbie, Use the suede spray like the man say!!

Hobbycraft definitely do it.

I guess other artsy craftsy shops do it too.

As I said, the spray stuff is available in Timpson's shoe repair shop. It's actually Suede/Nubuck colour spray. They also do it in liquid form which worked well last time when mixed with water and painted on. The spray stuff is quite toxic so take the roof off first!

Renovo's blue roof renovator stuff is ideal for Navy carpets too. Worked a treat on mine. Just don't get it on any light bits of trim as it's a sod to get off.

Is the Renovo colour coat permanent or would it need the 'sealing' as when you do the roof?? (probably a silly question) Ta

I tried that but it made all the carpet fibres stick together like hair gel. When I brushed the carpet, it all fell off. Did you mix it or something?

It did make the carpet feel a little 'stiff', but once it was properly dried I rubbed the area a bit and it softened up again. Maybe you didn't put enough on?
