I'm looking at Griffs at the moment with an eye to buy one when the right one comes along. Spotted one fairly local to my parents but it has modified brakes and exhaust. How will this affect insurance? I have a modified 205 and it is a pain in the bum to get insurance for as most companies wouldn't touch it. How easy is it with Griffs?

My old one was well modded and made no difference to the insurance...I guess brakes and Exhaust shouldn't as they are not speed related.

Insurers tend to take the attitude that they are already quick enough to get into trouble. A bit more makes no difference.

I’m with Hagerty’s and to start with they didn’t charge any extra. As the tuning got more they started to charge. The attitude to brake upgrades was that it lessened the risk. They didn’t offer to charge less for having better brakes though.

Same here.
I'm with Hagerty's and have been since I was 25 on a modded Griff:

Exhausts
Manifolds
Heads
Suspension
Brakes
Induction
Mapped
Stereo
etc.

No probs. Always paid around £200 agreed value.

Look at my profile for the mods on mine (extensive)- got reasonable quotes from both Hagerty and Mannings. Hagerty was £370 and Mannings £500. I went for Mannings in the end because of better trackday cover and a lower excess. Also my experience with Hagerty when last one written off left a slightly sour taste in the mouth (probably not their fault mind...)

Both are now fairly insistent on having had experience of similar cars which might be more of an issue for you.

PS If it has also had engine modifications this is the only time when TVR brake pony power is of real use... "How much extra power does it produce sir?" Why only an extra 10hp of coursehehe! Hence engine modifications become null and void- as such always worth declaring
