Do Pre-Cat Griffs spit flames ???

When driving hard then changing down for a corner my griff seems to pop from the tailpipes repeatedly. Is it likely that I am spitting flames like a 420seac I saw do this once?

PS my (catted) V8S apparently spits flames but it is set up to run pretty rich!

Sure do, look in your mirror on a really dark road and you can sometimes see the flash. Two balls of blue flame pop out every now and then.

A colleague of mine was chased by a bunch of lads in a peugot gti. They finally caught up at a set of lights and were yelling at him ... 'can you do that again... the flames are awesome!!!!'

According to the Griff I've been for a quiet drive with my 4.3 does, quite often.

Maybe copy the fighter boys: jet reheat injects extra fuel into the exhaust gases to give the 'dancing diamonds'... in fact didn't I see a kit that purported to do this?

At least then one of those infuriating 'Keep your distance' stickers would then make sense!!!

I have followed a friends pre-cat 4.0 ltr ( with sports exhaust) and can confirm that it did emit flames, looked good as it was at night.

I've found in the 4.3 that if I go to about 5,500 - 6,000 hold it for a fraction of a second then drop the clutch can get flameage of varying degree.

Now this may explain the comments from a nother motorist who came along side me at a set of lights recently. He shouted "those cars are bloody dangerous, they catch fire at the back you know". I replied "Sounds good to me", & left he hopefully toasted.

Could be both or either . Mine definately did it more often when the exhaust manifolds cracked. It is also a sign that the manifold bolts needs tightening when the frequency (ie lower revs etc) increases. However, it definately crackles on the overrun (not 100% about flames as I'm always driving) anyway even just after a service with all bolts checked etc .

Since I've had the sports exhaust modification done by Fernhursts it pops and bangs quite a lot, would this mean that it spits flames out the back when doing this as I hardly ever drive it at night?
