I assume people have seen this sad-looking Griff, item no 290300250582.
First question is whether the former owner is on here somewhere, and could perhaps confirm what the repair quote was that led to the Cat D... I thought it meant the cost was more than 60% of the final value, but given a final value of c£10k, that would suggest over £5K cost to repair, which doesn't seem to fit with the sellers suggestion it is mainly the front body work and lights and that the chassis and engine are fine...
Does anyone still produce body panels, or would you have to spend a year waiting for a salvage panel to materialise? If they are made by someone, how much would one be?
Quite like the idea of 'saving' this example, bringing it back to life, especially with TVR Power re-opening, they could do it all for me!!!
Thoughts, comments welcomed...
Jim

If the car is cat D & was worth They say 10K before damage was done.. If you repair it, mot or Re'aline it After all finished its worth 2K or poss 3K less than one that isnt on register.. Your gambling on repair cost. mecanical gamble that car runs right,,
With salvage cars the only person to win is the salvage company.. Trust me i own a body shop & i woundnt buy one..
Hope this helps..Stuart gold.. GOLD MOTORS Body shop

Bristol to South Essex - about 175 miles

my point was hes bought it, done nothing except tow it home and is offering it for £2195 more than he paid.

theres gotta be a lot of room for negotiation in the deal should anyone buy it

Yes he has ,on the Autotrader advert he's pulled out the Front wing .Still
not worth what he's asking for it IMO.

That griff (290300250582) would prob cost £3500 if no mechanical damage to repair to a good standard. Final value would be 7-8k being a registered cat D. That equates to Max value as is of £4k.

Nothing to see here! Walk away.

what would it be worth with no damage and no adverse history ?

Cheeky sod. He's already turned down one offer on ebay so he'll probably make some money on it. Looking at the pictures on the auction site it seems to me that just about every panel is knackered, with the possible exception of the boot lid. I would have thought a completely new body shell plus a full respray, plus any other messing about getting things to fit properly is going to cost more than £3-4k. I reckon the £3500 he paid for it was about right.

For those wondering what it is worth, there is a low mileage 1999 Chim in the classifieds for £6500 that was Cat D. It would seem that being on that register halves the value of your car, regardless of the quality of the repair.

normally you can knock about a third off the value of a car if it has adverse history.

the numbers dont add up

£5500 to buy the car
£3500 to repair it

thats £9000
which is more than its value assuming no adverse history (which it obviosly does have - eg cat d)

knock off a third off the value for the adverse history and its worth around £6000 repaired.

so i wouldnt recommend buying it
