Hi guys I wonder if anyone can help I have sold my griff to a fellow Pistonheader, typical the night before the chap saw the car the boot "shocker" broke away from the the hinge and although the chap knows all about it I would prefer to get it done for him before he picks it up at the weekend, so if anyone has one kicking about that they dont need and want to turn into a bit of cash please let me know.
Just to confirm its the n/s hinge i need not the shocker

many thanks chris

What is the problem with the hinge Chris? There isn't much to it really, its only a few bits of plate bolted together so whats gone wrong?

Hi
The ball that the shocker fits onto has brocken away from the hinge, and the hinge has a crack where it used to fit in. I could get it alloy welded but it would be easier to just replace it.

The ball bit is actually part of the gas strut. It attaches to the hinge via something called a nutsert, which as I understand it is a sort of rivet with a nut inside it and needs a special tool to fit.
When my nutsert pulled free of the hinge I attached the new strut to the hinge by cutting a nut in half and using half on each side of the hinge to lock the strut in. A bit convoluted but it had to be that way because of the clearance on the boot lip side.
I remember posting about it up here but it may have been archived by now. Might be worth a search though - use "nutsert" to search.
I did also post photos and always use Tinypic so it might be worth a search on there too (I can't get to that site from work)

Hi. I am said p.header that's bought the Griff from Chris. Anyone know if Chim and Griff boot hinge are the same? Reason I ask is plenty of Chims in specialist scrappers but no Griffs, ( the one at douglas valley now gone ). I think it would need to be exactly the same as it passes very close to boot seal as boot lid is being closed.

Any info welcome,

Cheers, Ed.

The boot hinges are different, Chimaera lids lift higher for the clubs!
Seriously, the hinges are different.

Thanks Anthony. Saved me bothering with Chims. Anyone know if possible to buy the hinge still?
