Temperature gauge sensor
Discussion
I was talking to a chap from ETB Instruments today.
We both learned something. He wasn’t aware what TVR did with the alternative temperature sender. I didn’t know what the TVR sender came from.
It turns out that the TVR gauge is matched electrically with the early Ford sender. This was fitted to many models from the 1960’s onwards. The last car to take it was the Granada pre 1994. But Capri, Cortina, Escort, Consul, and some others were mentioned as having been fitted with them.
We don’t yet know if the Ford sender is still available. However, ETB do sell an adaptor to fit The Ford sender into the threaded hole where the original Rover sender is currently fitted.
They are going to try and get a batch of new Ford senders and sell them as a pair. It’s a good idea to have a new sender. The one fitted in the car is now old and may not be in good condition. Since people are used to wacky readings, a duff sender may have gone unnoticed.
People will then be able to simply unscrew the Rover and screw in the Ford for an accurate gauge. If we can’t get them then people will be able to use their original sender, but need to fit a blanking plug into the TVR sender hole.
