I've not long had my Griff 500 but itching to do some sensible engine mods. the car is standard apart from a Mark Adams chip and Autec rolling road session. This resulted in a genuine 287BHP.
Would the next steps be a sensible progression and what results could I expect from the following:
ACT smooth elbow from AFM to Plenum
Magna Parva plenum insulator
Plenum inlet to 72mm
Remove pre cats
Is any of this worth/not worth doing?
Thanks
Mike

Yes to all of them in my book Would the next steps be a sensible progression and what results could I expect from the following:

Smooth elbow around 3 hp
Plenum insulator 3 hp
72 mm Plenum................ My car made 350 hp with a 72mm plenum and a host of other mods

Trumpets removed and base ground out to 45mm
Inlet manifold ground out to match plenum base
Increase fuel pressure using an adjustable regulator
Approx 10 hp that lot
Pre cats around 3 hp but massive reduction of under bonnet heat soak also sounds a lot better.
I would go for all of them as a beginners first steps in gaining more power
Then go down the cam route

Talk to Rob at V8D go for a H404 should give you another 10 hp
Go for it Buddy you wont regret it
O and make sure you go to the Griff Growl 09
I`d listen to Quinny, I should have 3 years ago when I first got mine, then asked the same questions as you , bought the smoothflow intake hose ect, then carbon trumpets, full decat and before you know it changed the cam and lifters twice in search of more power, add some fancy manifolds and kms ecu and thought 337bhp wasn`t enough, so then ripped the rv8 out and now fitting an ajpv8, and as much as I enjoy tinkering as much as driving I sometimes wonder why I started
once you get a gee gee bug it`ll cost you!

yes I do agree mate, but he`s got to consider what he wants from the car, I`m just saying that a few sensible and very worthwhile mods can lead to being a complete spanner wielding loony!
Do you mean he could end up like Me and You

k off Sheep Shagger you Pair have the fancy car lifts

k i am

Go on, you know you want to

IMHO there are things you should do before the 72mm butterfly, like port matching the inlet & exhaust manifolds.
I can't really see the point of the 72mm throttle unless you have the inlet manifold and trumpet base fettled to match as they seem far more restrictive to me.
Griffs do seem to be particularly sensitive in the filter-AFM area, but you have not mentioned this.
At the end of the day though, cams probably make the biggest difference between the cars. IMHO mods should always been done considering the cam in mind, they just have so many different characteristics that you want to develop along the lines of, and bear in mind we don't all hold the same objectives for our cars

Thanks all, really useful feedback.
I'm desperately trying not to get sucked into the upgradeitis trap, been there and suffered badly before!
I might start with the easy and cheapish stuff like the smooth intake elbow and the plenum insulator and then the removal of the pre cats.
Thanks
Mike
PS fully intend to go to the Growl!

A PIT??? Wow you had it good, as a child we had to work down 't pit for 28 hours a day and then come home and polish the Griff(in the snow)
Think yourself lucky I had to polish the Griff with a stocking full of nettles

Then again I'm not a soft sparky so it was nee bother
