Charging problem-help?
Discussion
Hi all....just been out freezing my nuts in griff, seems to be running a little rough.
Noticed that the dash instr. is only reading 12v or less. Has always read 14v ish. Another thing is that as I revved, well, the higher the revs the lower the reading, dropping below 12v....
Battery was changed a couple of years ago, never really had a problem like this and I`m not great in the leccy dept, really! I keep the batt charged when not using car with accumate charger, doesnt get used every week in winter.
Searched the forums to no success, nothing really similar.
Help appreciated all.....
Regards
Dave.

Yep, goldie could be that-and appreciate the sorry bit! Alternator is 10 years old according to p/work....
Will check that fuse also-where is it likely to be? Never had to look for it before....rather will it be below engine bay or on top so to speak??
Cheers

Thanks for that, will save time tomorrow. Will get new, easier, makes most sense....intend to check fuse first....put it on charge as usual til tomorrow. tried to nose round this evening but garage isnt largest, need to get it on my drive...ta for quick reply!!

Also worth checking that the cabling to your alternator is OK before writing off the alternator.
Disconnect your battery and check that the terminals are clean and tight. If you have a meter measure the resistance from the main alternator terminal to your battery positive (with battery disconnected) It should measure a fraction of an ohm.
Best of luck!
