First time... but unlikely to be the last...
Discussion
Well, yesterday I lost my cherry, so to speak... Went and test drove the black 4.0 Griff that appeared on Autotrader this week, K???DPP. First time in a TVR, first time in a Griff...
Problem 1 - how do I get in?? Always assume the knob pulls up the release the door, but no... doh!
Got in, v comfy, not cramped at all (I'm 6'2"), nicely aged leather seats. View out the front very reminiscent of the DB9 I drove last week on one of those driving day events, in that the hump of the bonnet totally obscures the whole front of the car!!
Problem 2 - put the key in and turned it but did nothing, few red lights etc... (been a while since I've been in a car with a separate immobiliser!! Doh #2!)
Problem 3 - How the bloody hell do I get out to ask the guy how to start it?? No door handle... just an ash tray that reminded me of my parents old Austin 1100 from when I was a kid!! After several confused seconds I eventually found it lurking on the centre console... quite what it was doing there I don't know - talk about over-engineering!!!
FINALLY get it started.... LOVELY!!! Bit of smoke from the exhausts, but started first time and burbled nicely as it idled...
Problem 4 - Not driven a car without PAS since I test drove an XR2i about 15 years ago. Trying to manoeuvre it out of a busy garage forecourt was a bit of a nightmare - need to work on my upper body strength, methinks... Also never try to parallel park in a hurry!!!
Get it out onto the (relatively) open road...
Ah, I see what all the fuss is about...
WHAT A GREAT FEELING!!! You kinda feel the whole world turns round to look as you go past...
Beautiful car, really 'old English sports car' feel, slighty frayed at the edges...
Asking price is £11k, but it seems the guy only bought it a year ago and it was advertised for £11k then, so he presumably payed less than that...
If anyone knows this car, opinions welcomed... The garage is supposed to call me early next week to 'discuss'... Would £9K be reasonable? It has done 53K, few stone chips and the paintwork has gone around the drivers door release, which you don't see until you open the door, but is back to the bare metal.
Angst....

You know all those 'problems' you listed above, which you subsequently learned the answers to. Well I think you need to add to the list redbarchetta Angst....
