While I have the dash out, has anybody found a cure for the condensation you get behind the glass on the instruments? I'm assuming it's caused by the gaps between the aluminium hot air tubes that come through the fire wall and the plastic vents. Is there a way of plugging the gaps and stopping hot/wet air leaking into the area behind the dash?

You wont get much condensation there, ordinarily. Most of the condensation in the gauges comes from water ingress in however small amounts, through the usual places for water leaks,ie the inner wing sealing and grommets etc,at least this is what i've found. The ali vent tubes do get condensated a bit if you have a/c and use it,but far more moisture works it's way in through deteriorated or damged seals.Just getting the carpets wet will still work it's way up there!Phil: if that's the grey box with "Central-something Blockaporte" printed on it then: yes it is.
The problem I had was that the dash remained connected to the car by several wires, even with all the block connectors taken apart. Great design. I ended up buying a crimping set, cutting the wires and adding push-fit connectors so that I could remove the dash completely. I also broke off two pieces of veneer while removing it, so re-veneering has now moved up the list of jobs.
Apologies for the appalling iPhone photo:

I wouldn't assume that at all. My Griff lives in an integral garage that is not damp and neither does the car leak yet I still get condensation in the dials. It's most likely simply the humidity of the atmosphere and the effect of the heater pipes behind the dash. Incidentally I've never noticed it when I've been in a dryer climate like south France. I just accept it as a feature of the car
