The lower part of the tachometer always looks slightly dim at night. Something I've noticed while taking the dash apart is that there is a third light at the bottom of the instrument, with a bulb fitted, but the wires are just wound up and stowed. Any ideas why this was done? Has anybody tried connecting these up?

Ah, that makes more sense. So that's what the wee red thingy is for, eh?
Any idea if this is easy to connect to the existing rev-limiter, Simon?

If you're on the standard ECU, you have to buy an after-market adjustable rev light unit. I bought one. Very easy to fit and works fine. I got it from eBay but places like DemonTweeks sell them too. If you have an after-market ECU, I think some have the function built in.

I asked Paul Austin about this one. All my questions tend to result in a rolling of the eyes and this one was no exception! It sounds like the standard ECU doesn't provide the relevant output and he wasn't very keen on the idea of a bolt-on unit.

Why use a bolt on and then run a lead to the tacho LED. You have to use a Ultra bright LED as the normal bulb is crap and near enough goes un-noticed.

the one I fitted was OMEX. If you've got the dash out, now is the time to do it. It'll take you 30 minutes to fit and set-up. I attached the unit under the dash so that I can access it easily. The OMEX unit comes with a large bright LED which fits nicely into the hole where the bulb normally goes.

I can't see anything negative about fitting one other than the cost.
