Were any of the last-of-the-line Griffiths with 16" wheels all round, delivered without PAS? And if so, what was the OE front tyre size? I've got a feeling that 205s on 7.5" wheels might be erm, stretching things a tad.

I thought they were 205s on precats , 215s on 500s without PAS and 225 on 500s with PAS
Then again I could be talking out of my arse, it wouldn't be the first time hehe

Yep, sorry for the confusion.
I'm running 15" fronts on my precat with 225's on and no PAS though. And it actually helps with stability. The car feels much less fidgety and less prone to tramlining.

Have you got a pair of 16" and are looking for the right tyres then 900T-R?

What make of tyre is that Ian?

As I've got 225 SO2's on mine and its as fidgety as hell.

I'm looking forward to replacing them with 205's in a Toyo T1-R

I think they're SO2's but I wouldn't stake my life on it (bought them SH from BB last year so didn't really take a lot of notice)
I know the previous tyres were Dunlop SP9000 in 205 and believe it or not they were actually better when they were on the wrong way round ( directional, and don't ask how I know redface )
Couldn't run with them like that though in case of an accident or I would have done.
When I say less fidgety I don't mean planted though Matt, I'm given to believe its the lack of PAS and its called feedbackrolleyes
I've replaced the hubs/wishbones/lower balljoints/track rod ends but it still feels like I'm riding a mental horse sometimes.
On B roads I sometimes find its easier to drive barely touching the wheel and let the car do its thing.

I'd be interested to hear what you think of Toyos Matt. I've scrubbed all the outsides off these now and think I'll need some new ones soon.

Sorry for the hijack 900T-R (and the 'you've got a reply' messages in your inbox) biggrin

Cheeky ! wink

I know what feedback is I'm referring to the way the car will suddenly dart left when it sees a different camber like a nervous horse!

You can definitely feel the soft sidewall of the Toyo and to my mind its what the car needs, the combination of the over wide fronts and stiff sidewalls on mine make it nervy

I'm definitly going to come down to a 205 toyo on the front and I'm hoping for good improvement

I have 205s on 7.5 16" rims front 350matt and have no regrets,i avoided anything wider as i hate that tramlining effect hehe

I wasn't being patronising Matt, it was a bad choice of words, sorry for the misunderstanding and no offence meant.
I am interested in what you are planning, so please let us know how you get on will you.

Cheers

Well I've taken the plunge and fitted a pair of new Toyo T1R's 205/55 R15's to the front of my precat and having now done about 100 odd miles they feel great.

The tramlining is much much better and the car a lot more stable mid corner bump so the softer sidewall doing its stuff here. I've yet to see what wet grip is like but fingers crossed it'll be fine.

Just thought I'd pass it on

That's good news Matt.
As I'm local to you, and will probably need some new tyres soonish can I borrow them for a week to try them out on my car?

hehe
Only joking, can you tell me where you got them from and how much?
PM me if you don't want to broadcast it to the world.

Bit more of a hijack then hehe

Anyone know about putting new tyres in an airing cupboard to heat the release agent off & how long this takes ?

Borrow tyres indeed(mutters) wink

I got them delivered from Camskill tyres for £56 each, all in £120 inc delivery, then cost me another £20 to have the pair fitted and balanced a Leicester tye shop.

I've already got the Toyo T1-S's on the back in 235/45/16
Have to say the car feels much more 'balanced' with the same make front and back now.
