Do you have to buy them as a set or can you get them individually? Is it the done thing just to do one?
Also is it advisable to get original or pattern parts? What about used one, worth it or not?
and no Mr spend I haven't been attempting to change my loom and fked it up, that'll be next week biggrin

Hi

Just a thought but if you're planning on fitting these as part of an ECU conversion then don't bother.

They're expensive and unreliable, your far better off with a pair of Ford coils

The only advantage they have is they fit very neatly along side the plenum as per a Range rover

Or you can buy used like I did, for £50, and they've run mine for 10k miles on the Emerald without any issues at all.

I still haven't located where all the reliability issues are coming from for these, do you know Matt.

There was some debate about water resistance, but other than that I don't find any particular evidence for this assumption ?

Ebay is your friend . . . Used, not new. There are normally a few choices. At that price you can afford to buy a spare which'll give you anothe 4 spares etc.

And yes, the whole lot.

Thay're a pain to change though. Plenum off and you'll need to reset the TPS afterwards if my experience is typical.

My Griffith is a little different then as I can replace mine without the need to remove the plenum at all. Yes it is a bit fiddly to say the least, but better than having to remove the plenum.

Hmm, didn't realise this was the Griff section. Saw P38 on the whats new list and thought Range Rover, hence the post.

Still, second the notion of used genuine over pattern new coils though.

They are readily available on e-bay s/hand for not much money.i once paid £14 for a perfctly working used set delivered! The question is-do you want to take the chance on used ones???I'm really disapointed that the ones on your car havent lasted that long!frown I wonder if there are different makes and therefore different quality?

I'm just going off personal experience with rangies and what I've been told by others, I think the way they're mounted on the engine doesn't damp out the vibration plus its quite a hot location for them.

Whereas I bought two 2nd hand ford items for a tenner and they were still going strong 30K later.

If you've got them, stick with by all means

I fitted the p38 coilpacks got them from Rimmer Bros, reason I fitted them because the look so much better and since I am going to fit the SC kit I would be struggling for space for coil location.

Sure we have been here before hehe Mud Plugers seem to do ok with them, lots of water/mud and heat so IMHO that's a bloody good test for me smile
