Hi everyone,

My Griff 500 has just failed its mot because of the brakes therefore i need 2 new front callipers and 1 rear, So i contacted my local TVR dealer who are great but was quoted £199.99 each! please forgive my lack of knowledge but i`m sure TVR never produced there own callipers meaning i must be able to obtain the callipers elsewhere.

Am i assuming correctly they are Cosworth callipers ? If so can anyone please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Rik

What's wrong with them? It may simply need new seals or some more grease on the sliders, don't go buying brand new callipers unless you know the current ones are beyond repair.

hi GreenV8s cheers for reply, The mechanic i use has told me i need to replace calipers and unfortnately i have very little mechanical knowledge myself, i do know 1 of the front ones is sticking badly and the handbrake part on the rear caliper is not working at all. I was also told that you cannot buy a service kit for brake calipers anymore.

You can still buy service kits, but they are damned hard to get.

However, there is very little point in buying them for TVRs given that exchange calipers are around £30 each from somewhere like Brakes International. IIRC they're RS turbo on the front and Granada Scorpio on the back.

Try www.powertrackbrakes.co.uk for caliper kits etc. Haven't used them myself but remember the name from a previous thread. Not hard to do. If the pistons are seized remove pads and push out while on the car, much harder to do on the bench, also helps to use the correct seal grease when replacing.

They are only a Ford part and should be avialable on a service replacement basis from most factors for about 50 quid. Perhaps they are quoting you for discs as well.

Another choice http://www.brakepart.co.uk/

The front brakes are sierra with 260mm discs - thats the higher powered V6 models or the later ABS models.
Don't let anyone take the piss - they are sierra brakes with no modifications.

Someone above mentioned RS Turbo front brakes - dead right identical to the sierra ones (same part numbers)

Replaced my fronts in November so mine are also available (they are about 18month old)
and here is a link to a PAIR of new rear caliper;
fleabay advert Thats £119 for a pair!
If you need disks as well, I found Black Diamond very good and also very cheap...Check out the Griff Pages on BB's website for the part numbers smile

ETA, i got my replacement calipers from tvrcarparts and they were similarly priced to those on fleabay.

Sorry to hijack but it seems better than to start a new thread. Can anyone tell me for certain what car the front callipers for a pre-cat Griff is off (240mm disk)? I've read Granada and Sierra Cosworth but these I'm told these are different?

If you want a pair complete with carriers in good working order, you can have mine FOC if you cover the postage cost wink the calipers you have are sourced from the Ford Sierra 1.6.2.0 circa 1982 on.
