Quick question guys.

I've got a Griff 500 and it's just started playing up on hot start, basically when it's stopped it will restart normally if you try within a minute or two but if you leave it for 5 needs half an hour before it will crank. You turn the key and it's as if the immobiliser is still on, no clicks, no attempt to start?

Any ideas?

Cheers

It's a fairly well documented issue. It's to do with the way that TVR wired up the starter and the amount of heat generated under the bonnet.

Have a search on the forum for hot start and you will find many discussions about it.

There is a mod to fit a relay in which allows more current to flow to the solenoid, contact David Beer (through pistonheads) he can supply a kit you can fit. Could also be the starter motor of which there have been mixed opinions on the best option to replace it.

when my battery died it would do similar things which I thought was the hot start problem. I'm no expert but IIRC what happened was , battery cold, car would start. Battery warm (from say a 2 minute drive to the petrol station) but engine cold and it wouldnt crank. Seems the plates were bent and as the battery warmed up they would bend further and then not produce sufficient current to crank the engine. Leave it for 30 mins to cool down and it would work again.

Has your battery ever been completely drained ? Mine was knackered by me leaving the headlights on resulting in a totally flat battery.
