I still have this engine in a crate which was fully rebuilt after I had used it for 3 years in my Range Rover. Should it now go into a Griff? Would it fit? John Eales/Dennis Priddle designed & built it, in fact Dennis has it at the mo as he won't finish the build until the destination car is known, to choose the right cam etc. oh decisions decisions.......

Definately will fit Steve, though not the 4.6 plenum. Would you change ecu at the same time?

it has custom plenum and MoTec programmable ECU - the standard Lucas system wasn't up to the job!

I remember seeing a JE Engineering supercharged engine in a friends Range Rover. This made some really high numbers (forget how much though), but the charger was a standard style one (roots or screw rather than the centrifugal used in the SC Power kits). From memory this would never have fit in a TVR engine bay so you might want to check that as there is very little clearance above the standard plenum unless you start cutting holes. What kind of charger is it and where's it mounted?

What sort of blower is it, and where is it mounted? I think DP favours the Opcon twin screw compressors, which are quite big. If the installation is designed to fit a RR engine bay you might find it fouls the bodywork on the Griffith. On the other hand, if it's mounted in the V all you need to do is check the total height, and it could well fit (mine does).

Do you have pics of the plenum ? It is this one with Laminova chargecoolers ?

Thats looks really neat and I'd say youv'e a good chance of fitting it in a Griff

I'm not so sure - that throttle body is a long way outboard and unless you're going to poke it straight out the side of the car you need a 90 bend in there too. I tried offering up the M112 in that position in the V8S (which has more space round there than a Griffith) and it was extremely difficult to cram into the width available.

yes it's Opcon, with custom plenum / ducting made by Dennis and the top pic shows it installed in my Range Rover. It did sterling work for three years and was utterly reliable - the LT77 gearbox eventually exploded with all that torque but that's another matter and frankly I was amazed how well it stood up to severe punishment for so long, lots of full throttle standing starts at the traffic lights to embarass Porsches etc...)

The engine has now been renewed and Dennis has made some big valve heads with lower compression (I ran with standard compression before and got some pinking at full boost smile

good question about fitting into a Griff - I think it would be rathr tight - a wedge might take it better - I have a 350i with loooads of bonnet space smile)

Get it in there! Dennis really is the king of the superchargers, and I learnt a good chunk of what I know about forced induction from him. Just can't quite work out how to route the inlet trunk though....

yes I like Dennis - he's one of a rare breed who really know what they're doing. He spent ages getting my installation right - and happily told me that the fine tuning of the ECU was done with John Eales driving the Range Rover around the faster Coventry A-roads at 110mph with Dennis in the passenger seat trimming the fuelling & ignition curves on his laptop! he told me it was important to set it at full load to ensure no leaning out of the mixture which would burn the pistons out in no time. proper professional. mad as cheese. love him.

dug out a few more pics for all you fans of blowers; one of my old RR Lichfield interior showing extra supercharger boost, charge temp, and oil temp guages on top of dash and one of the dyno results (torque)showing the blown engine (top curve) vs. the same 4.5TVR before blower, and a standard Rover 3.9efi on the bottom. nuff said.

So this'll be the one I looked at, at Dennis' a year or 4 ago?
We reckoned it would fit, but the induction was different. Dennis had some really cool charge-coolers in the plenum which he reckoned would remove detonation issues. Still had to cut the bonnet a touch.

Not sure it was 100% reliable from memory.

Wouldn't go for a 1 off charger now, when there are many SC-power units about that fit in easily. The install costs are huge unless you do it yourself or have a friendly installer to help. I hear they are doing one for the Rangey next too.

Pete has managed to go the one-off route as has Steve...I'm sure they'll know about development costs. You would end up with something unique tho, which is always nice.

Wouldn't advise it mate, specially that way.
You will also have insurance issues if they pick it up.

This is how I did my TR8 5.0 TT twin chargecoolers many moons ago. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

There were two copper cored units which slid into the plenum from the front where I had detachable front plates. I had room for core thickness's from 1-3" but settled on a 2" core to let the air flow better. I had an exchanger at the rear of the car in place of the spare wheel well. Later I put an exchanger on the boot lid below the spoiler. The last improvement was water injection which I really liked as the chargecooling stuff took up a lot of space and added weight.
