Preload help needed ASAP

Sorry to start another thread but just need a little advice ASAP.
just rebuilding my engine and setting the pre-load but to get mine to .060 I neet to put 3 shims on each pedestal. prior to rebuild there were no shimms on? I have changed the cam, rockers,push rods, and head gasket. not had the head skimmed though, does this sound right?? I expected to use maybe one shim on each pedestal from the kit but all three

If this is pretty standard then no worries but I need to know as i'm building her up now.

Hello Chris

You've changed some pretty major components in the valve train so you have to expect the tolerance stack-up to change.

The only thing to really watch is that the rocker geometry is still correct , make sure that the rocker pad sweeps across the top of the valve stem evenly (check with engineers blue).

Also double check the pushrod sits snugly into the rocker cup and its not being held off with any swarf etc. Aslo you can swap pushrods around to get the best compromise on preload across all lifters.

cheers for the help all sorted now just a few more bits to stick back on and then its time to fire her up will be wednesday before I get another chance to work on her though.

Now you are assuming the preload was set before!?
