Seat Belt 'Grabbage'!!

I've just bought a pair of T350 seats I am going to re-colour and fit to my Griffith.

I am 6'2 and feel really uncomfortable with the lack of height with the original seats.

Considered MX5 or S2000 seats, but the T350's are the correct width on the rails and will only require very slight modification to fit.

One thing that is made a little more awkward is the reach to the seat belt.

I have seen a bracket that extends the belt somewhere but have failed to find it again.

I'm getting a new pair of Securon 500/30 belts to replace the originals. The friction against the carpet at the back of the seat really stops them from retracting correctly, hopefully a new belt mech. will help.

Anyone seen these brackets/extenders anywhere?

What's the opinion on these safety-wise?

Is there a risk the bend could straighten itself out in an impact?

I'd stay well away they don't anything like substantial enough to me.

Depends on how much you like you face as is.. The things on e bay look very dangers,, I work will metal all day long & wouldn't trust the ebay units...

Have just fitted a new seat belt on my passenger side, have put a spacer behind the reeling mechanism and it does not stick at all and no friction against the carpet. Only thing I have a problem with is the clip bit that sits on the transmission tunnel side. The new ones are not very long. Does anyone know of a manufacturer who extends them ?

Thanks for the advice, I thought they looked a bit suspect.

I like the look of the ones Matt has made up, they look like they are substantial enough. They look about 4-5mm thick.

To cope with the increased height of the T350 seats that same design 'upside down' may be the way forward.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable with any of the above designs.....

IMHO the seat belt should remain fixed to the original fixing point, and some sort of guide mechanism fitted to extend/raise/lower the end resting point. Further more this mechanism should be made of a soft material that distorts with relativily low force... rather then a hard material that will not give when hit with head/neck/shoulder on an impact.

I did mine mainly to move the seatbelt strap down to safe and comfortable point so it wouldn't throttle my wife, as she tended to sit in the car with it held away from her to prevent it chafing against her neck.
Its located far back enough ( about 7-8" ) from the seat not to be clouted by a body moving about , plus the top point as standard means the belt is held back by the hood when its down so it doesn't function until its extended a few inches which limits its effectiveness.

I had some plastic extensions on mine when I bought it. They would hold the belt out when at rest but deform completely under duress leaving the belt to behave as designed.

Ummm I was thinking more about should the worse happen, ie major smash and the car deforming..........

Seem to remember Vauxhall had an extender on the top seat belt mount on the 2 Door Astra,it was very similar to the ones on the Cerbera,it swivels as well .Used these on my 34 ford coupe Hot Rod when I used to build them,that had a tuned 4.0 litre Rover V8 as well .Now ive calmed down and got a Pre-Cat Griff
