Peeps

Has anyone here tried to remove the gearbox without taking the engine out on pre-cat?

I'm in the process of doing mine (clutch plate went pop on a track day) and its 98% out, but something is stopping it from being fully withdrawn, do you have to remove the change mech / gear lever?

Its an LT77 box (so heavy) and I can move it back off the engine about 3" and then it stops / clouts something which I failed to see last night at 9ish...

IIRC you have to split the box from the bellhousing (just gear lever out) ... Its the T5 that has a spaghetti remote tangled up in the chassis AFIK.

Hmmm thats going to be awkward but not impossible, Have to reach inside the bellhousing past the flywheel and clutch and they're going to be pretty tight...

I'll give that a go cheers
any suggestions for locating a replacement friction plate?

I'm hoping a range rover part will suit

Yes that is the real PITA about the LT77, having to reach inside the bellhousing to release the box. But TBH its the only real disadvantage I have come across apart from all the 'pub' talk hehe

So would a range rover 3.9 Borg & beck clutch plate (£41.09 from Rimmer bros) do the job do we think?

Range Rovers use a 101/2" clutch, 2wd LT77 applications use a 91/2" clutch in a smaller bellhousing (SD1)

Thanks for the info,

It seems that clutch plates on their own are a bit thin on the ground , most places want to sell you an entire kit of parts,

helix do an uprated centre 9.5" plate for a TR8 ( so LT77 box and V8) for just over £100 also showna s suitable for all the V8 TVR's

what do we think?

Matt if you want a full 3 part clutch I've got a full kit going spare, its unused but a few years old, it was listed for a V8 sherpa van but its identical to mine in the V8S. (I bought 2 of them, I'm going to use one in my car).
I am not sure why but the friction plate is a lighter colour than the stuff you get now, thats the only difference.
Its boxed as a unipart kit but all the components are borg & beck.
If you're interested PM and make me an offer, I'm only up the A46 in Bingham so you could collect it.

Chris

I've got a clutch with little use you can have, should be fine for a 4.0. TBH if you are tuning a 4.3 it seems silly not to get the uprated clutch IMHO (which is why said clutch is going spare..);)

You're probably right Dave but funds are a bit tight at the mo' plus I figure the original plate lasted 60K so.....
