500 panel air filter - cleaning

My filter was filthy so I've cleaned the sponge with water containing washing up liquid. Did several washes until the water ran clean. Is this the correct procedure and replace when dry, I'm assuming these are the 'dry' type

Im sure you need thin oil sprayed over to stop the smaller particles of crap But don't soak it as i will stop the car breathing properly

Whoops, water is a big Wash it out in petrol then oil it up.

Buy a new one from clever trevor...£14 comes pre oiled,not worth the hassle at that price.

Mine looks like the Pipercross type and I have some oil spray left from another kit. They are listed at £34.11 from CT, cannot find anything for £14 pre-oiled
