The journo really likes the Griff. He did a piece in C&SC about 10yrs ago on a Griff as well. Of all the cars he was doing for the buyers guide this year, the Griff was the one he looked forward to the most.

Our verdict

Let's face it, a Chimaera is 90% of the car for
60% or the price, but it just doesn't stand on
the pedestal of Greatest Cars Ever beside the
Griffith. For looks, noise, excitement and ulti-
mate performance, the Griffith warrants the
premium. Just watch out for the chassis rot
and neglect that can make ownership a
disaster rather than a delight. C&SC

FOR

• Stunning looks that no other TVR has equalled
• Performance to match, from rugged Rover V8
• Practical - large boot and space behind seats
• Accommodates tall drivers as well as small

AGAINST

• Body vulnerable to accidents and stonechips
• Roof section difficult to fit in boot
• Painted chassis rots, expensive to repair

Not seen the review, but when they 'test' the classics do they use an 'original' car or one that's been modded, to whatever extent? Some of the more tastefully modified cars out there are leagues ahead of when they left the factory.

Mine appeared in C&SC about 4 years ago, when it was for sale at David Gerald - they did one of their 'best of the classifieds' pieces. Lots of nice things to say about it.

Yep it is mine.
The red pre cat? Do you mean the late arrival yesterday? In which case new owner, first TVR, lives in Malvern. Nice looking 1992 4.0ltr.

Got the magazine and whilst I generally agreed with the article, I thought the remarks about chassis rot issue were a little unbalanced. They seemed to imply that the whole chassis is prone to rot when it is primarily the outriggers that are the issue. Even if they are completely shot the new options from Sportmotive make repair economically viable and no mention was made of this.

I can assure you the journalist was told about this option, price and that to my knowledge Sportmotive,Power and David Geralds were all doing them at £1500 fitted. I also agree it went overboard on rot, but thinking about it I guess it is a buyers guide and he has to cover all eventualities?

Agreed that it needs to be highlighted just a shame it wasn't mentioned that it can be fixed for a reasonable sum.

What do you mean funny little stud things.. These are quality Stainless Steel, CNC machined, accurate to 10 Micron, Internal cabin enhancements... And very cheap at the price offered!
What else can you get for under £10 delivered of this quality?... If they were made by Leven’s you’d all be queuing up for them!!

OK they may be made to 10 microns, so what! this accuracy not exactly required in practice + or - 1/8" would be quite acceptable.

Acceptable to some may be... but if your going to do a job.. do it right... that's my motto!! Does not matter if it's the valve seat or a small stud....
Mind you,,, the flip side of that... I'm just sealing the hole where the seat belts go thru the body to the chassis by clagging loads of silicon stuff in!... Real top quality job (not!!);)
