Brake Disc Wear
Discussion
I have fitted the TVR 'AP' upgrade kit to my car and after having the discs machine (on the car) to perfectly match the slight runout in the hub I am still not getting full contact on the disc.
It is evident by the inside edge of both front discs not showing signs of wear (contact) and after washing surface rust has come up.
The surface rust is about 10mm into where the pad should be contacting the disc.
Since fitting I have only done around 200 miles, but I would have the pads to be fully contacting the discs.
The inside face of both discs seem to be fine, and I have checked that all pistons on both sides are working correctly and not seized.
Any ideas?

Where did you get the kit?
I assume the disc is mounted on an alloy bell. Check if the pad material is touching the alloy bell.
Apparently there has been a recent change in specification by the manufacturers of the kit. When mine was fitted this required slightly different specification pads to restore clearance.

I'd get them hot, use them fully & see if it goes away.. IIRC mine did similar whilst bedding in, and its quite a lot of normal road use until you discover what is required to load those brakes
You might just be pussy footing as you don't realize how powerful they are &/or your grip is not comparable to the stopping capability?.
I still have to make a conscious effort to use them fully every now and again - but generally treat them with even more care than the loud pedal

spend - I have been treating them a little 'gingerly', as I have been trying not to cane it after just fitting.
I will take a photo at the weekend to try and expand on my rather sketchy explanation.
BTW - I have been trying for a long time to source the blocks needed for Corado mirrors, I have a pair of mirrors - but the blocks are rarer than 'hens teeth', how long ago did you do yours - and where did you get them from?

I bought mine direct from the factory... Pretty sure some one posted on here recently that somebody had started making them again, try a new thread people might notice?
I've said it before (probably for Jelly IIRC) if I did it again I wouldn't bother with the adapters, just fill the hole and shape it to the door (leaving the hole for the wiring) and fix the mirrors on top.

Have the pads glazed over? you need to use them to bed them in. I'd try some vigorous braking from 60/70mph to 20mph on a clear cariageway, and then see what affect it has had on the discs/pads. (first check the pads aren't all shiny, if so rough them up ith a course sanding block [or smooth concrete] first)Edited by Bluebottle on Wednesday 3rd June 20:24
