Oh....thats not good

Hi

After giving the car a little tlc today I tried to close the bonnet & it wouldnt shut properly & made a nasty graunching sound as I pushed it down.

Obviously I didnt force it, & spent a few minutes trying to find what was catching.

I found the culprit, where the bonnet is connected to the two fixings/hinges near the windscreen, the nearside one seems to have moved back into the bulkhead! As a result it wouldnt allow the bonnet to close.

We took it off & tried to adjust the hinge, but it was very difficult to do as it kept moving back under the windscreen...the offside hinge is fine & is working correctly.

Ive noticed the two hinges seem to be connected across the width of the car by a steel rod, but I cant see how to get at it.

Any thoughts?

I managed to get the bonnet back on & closed it porperly, but it needs sorting.

Has the fibre glass broken around it ?

One word of warning - make sure the back edge of the bonnet does not catch under the windscreen. One of my hinges went a bit wonky and when I shut the bonnet it just cuaght the underside of the screen by about 1/8 inch. Result - small crack in the screen at point of contact which by morning had grown the full height. New screen, and all the hassle that implies!

Doesnt look like it.

It has rubber around it which appears to have 'gone' but the fibreglass looks ok.

Our local Manbulance driver is coming round tonight to point & laugh as we try to investigate
