Paranoid? Moi? - engine noise content

Ok - Griff 500.......24k miles ish

I have had it for a few weeks - done 500 miles......

now, i'm sure i'm paranoid - but someone mentioned on another thread about lower mileage cars having CAM issues......

This weekend I noticed a noise. The noise is rather subtle - sounds like a sort of very subtle playing cards in the spokes of pushbike.

The sounds isn't there under power, but is when I come off the power........sometimes

No reduction in power that I can tell........oil and water all looks good......(both pressure, temps) etc and visually inspected......

and frankly the noise could have been there all of the time!!!!!!!!

I'm under warranty anyway.........but just thought i'd ask so someone can tell me that its the bearings in the engine fans or something and not that my V8 is about to explode?!

Looking at the photo in your 'garage' I'm fairly sure you have a sound warranty. Take it back. Ask them. If it is potentially something serious it'll save them money the sooner it's remedied - everyone's a winner.

Might just be an exhaust manifold gasket leaking. Mine sounded a bit like that, no big deal though.

I'm probably imagining it........I'll run it this weekend and have a proper listen to it.......then give them a call next week.

They have been nothing but excellent - so i'm sure it'll be fine!

There is a simple albeit not free of charge test - a dyno run. If cam wear, then loss of power and torque. That is where I ended after checking all the gizmos feeding the ECU in the hope it would not be the cam..; the cam wear noise was very subtle (only at high rpm) but the loss of power very real :-)

oooh i hate those 'now you hear them now you don't' engine noises....got one myself at the mo - kind of tappety noise that;s there one minute and gone the next. and yes exhaust manifold gaskets are often the cause and so i wouldn't worry about it too much. if it runs ok and with plenty of power and no obvious fault then keep on truckin'.

May be a strange one But what Brake Discs are you running, My drilled and grove ones make nose that i didnt realise to be them at first and was worried it was something else. Hard to explain the sound more of a wooshing Would also Have a feel around the manifolds as the gaskets can be prone to leak/break if the cheapo ones are used and the bolts not re tightened up a few times after being put in and run in.
