My brother has been in a very bad work accident. He has been taken to a hospital in London and has had a 11 hour operation so far and is due another operation today, with more to follow.
As you can understand this has taken over everything and Im not working at the moment to deal with it.
Im letting you all know this as my time is taken up dealing with organising the family and taxiing to and from the hospital and so I wont be reponding to emails etc very often. Ive written on the Griff forum as the majority of PHers I talk to seem to be here.
Also the dealers I have spoken to lately will hopefully read it and understand that I wont be intouch again till all this is over. Thanks for your time though.
I wont be buying another car till Im 100% sure he is fit and able (a fair while) as his need is greater than mine.
I'll let you know how he gets on but please bear with me as I have a lot of family and friends to keep up dated during the day and I visit him each night.
Please put up with the impersonal correspondance but Im trying to organise my time better.
A breif report so you understand the situation. He has tubes for everything. Lots of IV bags and morphine with lots of induced morphine nightmares about the accident. He has side effects to everything and is suffering. The surgeons are happy with his progress and we are pleased to know that his good health is making things easier for them. I keep feeding him positive news during any moments he is awake to keep his spirits going and it seems to make a difference.
Thanks for listening and excuse the babbling. I feel I have a lot of friends on PH and wanted to share my feelings. It makes me feel a bit better to do this too.
Like I said earlier I wont be around much but I'll keep you updated as and when. Last news I had was good news. But there is still 4-5 operations to go.
Please understand that I havent included exact details here out of respect. He can do that if he wishes when he recovers.
BTW: A point worth mentioning. The surgeons have said that if he had been a smoker they would not have been able to save as much as they have. This is is due to the fact that smoking shrinks the bloodvessels and slows down the healing process (something like that anyway).
Thanks.

Thanks all. So good to read your responses. It means a lot.
Just had an update on the second operation ("only" 5 hours this time).
Progress is amazing, especially on his mental state. Will be with him again this afternoon.
My company have been excellent and give me all the support and time I need.
A few brief details. (I feel its OK to share some of them here now).
The accident left him believing he had lost his arm due to machinary pulling him in and crushing. Whilst trapped he called 999 and directed them to him. The emergency services are amazed that he stayed concious to call them and direct them and then to tell them how to operate the machinary to free him. His arm was "ok" apart from fractures. His hand was a mess. (I really cant go into more details here, imagine bad, and its worse then that). Basically we were being told bad news about his hand up until today where we have been told they may be able to save almost everything.
Current situ is he is still operating on a "dry sump" type set up (tubes etc) but his mental state is so much better. Cant wait to see him this afternoon.
When he is up to conversation Im gonna have to give him something very good to look forward too. Need to give him something to take his mind away from the morphine induced nightmares (they consist of the accident being repeated over and over again). Being that he is a petrolhead too I'll get him along to a car meet, when he is up to it, with the promise that he'll get a good look at lots of cars and passenger rides. VW in Feb will be too early but Im sure theres a few of you that would like another get together anyway. Thats all way in the future though.
Thanks again for your support. I have been reporting everything to family friends and his work colleagues in between visits and its a tiring job. Everyones support has been fantastic and much needed. I finally got some good sleep last night.
I'll have to get him to post more on PH when he is recovering, that will keep him occupied!

Thanks guys. Made me smile. Just got in. I've come home earlier to catch up on some sleep tonight.
Steve started telling me about the nightmares so I mentioned that we would have the car meet at some point. Gave him some thing else to think about.
As he is getting better I'll start telling him about the cars. Thanks Ed, thats great.
He has picked up a bit of a fever now but the majority of the other signs are progressing.
He is a long way from the end but hopefully the recovery period has started and its all good from here.
Work have been great and signed me off on compassionate leave without me even having to ask. Only been there 2 weeks.
