Griff retrim

We intend to completely retrim an early Griffith (full leather - new veneer - carpets - hood ) and I am a bit anxious by this huge job ?

1) it seems the risk to break the windscreen is high : 50 - 90 % Do you confirm ? For sure , my trimmer will call on a specialist to remove the windscreen but have you some advice to avoid a new one ?

2) I fear some electrical problems after dismantling the interior, more particularly the dash and wiring. Is it possible to obtain an exploded view (or picture) with the main connections inside the dash, behind the veneer ? Mods from thegriffithpages are very useful but there is not a lot of instructions regarding connections removal.

3) Where are exactly located the earth points near the centrale console, transmission tunnel, seat belt ?

Have you other kind advices to avoid problems ?

Had mine done by D&C Trim in Blackpool, they are ex factory boys and the job they did was fantastic. I think I had another windscreen fitted at the time.

I can give you some input into 3)

The transmission tunnel earth is just above the left door opener.
I have a picture but its really just a picture of a bolt with a wire attached, going through a bit of carpet to be honest.

As for 2)
After this summer I will be pulling my dashboard out to get it re-veneered (or some other idea, who knows yet) and will photograph everything while I have it apart as I have some pictures but nowhere near enough. If you haven't done the job by then I'll get anything you need.
Mines an early precat too.

all I will say.is that precat wiring is now 18 years old and some of it has gone brittle and breaks easily

I’ve had the dash out on mine and the electrics were easy. From memory, once you have the radio out there where only a few connectors to unplug. One (or two) large ones for the dash, two wires to the dash light switch (near your left knee) and a set of wires going off behind the glove box to the interior light in the passenger foot well.

I think the hardest part is not damaging the dash and leather when you remove it..

And (in my opinion) while you have the dash off you might as well junk the meta alarm and immobiliser and put something more modern in with a remote boot release.

Easy: go to an Italian restaurant, order spaghetti, give it a good stir then photograph from an acute angle.

My trimmer is looking for the foam "cushion" for the driver seat. Passenger seat is OK.

Thus only for the seating part of the seat. Have you an idea where whe can find this part ? Many thanks again.

As long as the seat foam bolsters (sides) are in good condition, the base can be cut from any piece of upholstry foam - it's a very simple shape.

BTW good luck with the retrim, and I hope it works out well! I had mine retrimmed a couple of years ago and it was a bigger job than I thought.

Did you have the opportunity to take some pictures of your removed dash ? It could be be helpful.

As far as the dash is concerned, I asked a slighlty thickened facia in a Bentley style (thus, with veneered chamfers) but the "craftsman" working with my trimmer informed me that he could not carry out what I wanted. The result will be a mix, not exactly what I expected...
